who sold my number?
Ever tried to come up with a good response when retailers ask you your name, zip code, phone number, some personal info unnecessary to your transaction?
Well, thanks to micahpeak, I’ve got a working algorithm. Give them the name of the company as your name so when you start getting spammy emails, dead tree mailings and phone calls you know who sold your information.
Actually, I usually give out bogus information anyway. (Really, my phone number is 555-1212, it’s just the darnedest thang).
Most importantly, I refuse to cough up my local zip code. The only reason for a retailer to collect zip codes is to determine where to build next. And personally I think we have enough big box stores marring the landscape around here. We don’t need more.
