Cool idea: before you buy something, enter its UPC into this site (via your mobile device of choice) to find out about its environmental impact - greenscan
The site doesn’t have a lot of information yet, but this is a great idea. Since I don’t have a cell phone, I’d love to see an API published that online retailers could access.
